New year, new socks?

It’s a new year and that of course means it’s time to make some new goals. If you’ve been here in the last year, I used to post my 75 “Hard-ish” entries here. Once I completed that I went a bit off the rails (it was November and I wanted to actually have Thanksgiving and Christmas without thinking about it and I’m having tater tots on New Years Eve). Since then I’ve gotten back on track, but most of my weight loss/food/fitness musings live on my little tumblr blog.

I still have other projects that I want to commit to though besides my continued health focus. In 2023, I declared it my year of “sweaters”. My goal was to knit 6 sweaters (one every other month) during the year. Fatigue definitely settled in and I fudged the numbers a bit (a knitted tank top totally counts as a sweater). In 2024, I started a new job and have knit maybe four significant things, most of which where presents.

In 2025, I’m declaring it my year of socks. Socks might be my favorite thing to knit (I’m currently knitting a quick pair of worsted weight Troll socks in Noro Kureyon) and since I haven’t been knitting much lately I have a stockpile of sock weight yarn. So my goal is to make a pair of socks a month. I’ll probably do some more finicky patterns eventually, but I’m going to start off relatively tame and finally knit up some yarn I’ve had waiting for me to do something with it since 2017! I’ll be knitting the Time Traveler Socks with a Quantum Dots Kit from PHDYarns (which doesn’t seem to exist anymore 🙁 ) that has moved across states and houses with me by now.

I do have one other crafting goal that has a deadline. I’m going to a Stray Kids concert at the end of May and I’ve been obsessed with the cardigan Hyunjin wears from Versace. So I’m going to knit a… version? of it in laceweight mohair before the end of May (whether I wear it to the concert or not is debatable, but deadlines are good for my brain). I’m not going to use the branch motif in the og one, but instead do some colorwork of the stray kids logo and maybe the dominate logo, since they’re both scrible-y/line art enough to fit the design. I’ll probably end up basing the cardigan off of something like the December Moon Jacket and I’m playing around with a few mohairs trying to find the best red.

Overall, I’m trying to be simplistic with my goals this year. Continue my lifestyle/exercise changes, knit more intentionally, and a few others that will probably never get mentioned much outside of my goals list – 1) start running, 2) learn to ride a motorcycle, 3) take a class with real humans (not zoom/async).
